Wudhu And Salaah Of A Ma’zoor (Excused Person).

Question: Assalamu Alaikum,

Supposing someone suffers with gas (belching, flatulence, passing of wind etc) but is unable to keep wudhu for an extended period, eg, passes wind every 5 minutes or sometimes is even unable to finish their wudhu before passing wind again. what is the Shariah ruling on making wudhu for salaah, bearing in mind the below two conditions:

  1. The person does not normally suffer with gas but recently he started to suffer with it, with the possibility that it’s just a phase they are going through and the gas would subside in a couple of days or weeks.
  1. The person has a history of gas and has ben suffering with it for a few years now?

Answer: As Salamu Alaikum,

If the entire time of Salaah passes this person in this state where he cannot keep his wudhu and purity to offer the minimum amount of rakaats of the fardh and wajib salaah, then he is termed an excused person. The ruling for him is that he should make wudhu for the time of every salaah and perform salaah with that wudhu, (even though he may experience the passing of wind). When the time for this salaah comes to an end, then his wudhu will also end. However, if besides this sickness (excuse), some other breaker of wudhu occurs, then this wudhu will be broken on account of that breaker of wudhu although he may be within the time for that particular salaah which he made wudhu for.

Whenever this problem comes to an end, the concession given will also come to an end.

And Allah Knows Best.
