Relating information about family disputes.

Q. I know that backbiting is not permissible, but if there is a family issue with one member of the family and I need to relate the behaviour and attitude of a person in the family to another member within the family, would this be considered as backbiting?

A. In family disputes/issues etc. one is required to relate information about another person for the sake of resolving and settling the issue. This is not backbiting. However, while relating such information, one is required to be truthful and accurate, without adding to or subtracting from the true nature of the incident/dispute.

And Allah knows best.
