Raising Money For Masjid’s Fun Day

Question: Assalamu Alaikum,

Is it desirable to raise money for the Masjid & its associated projects by having fun days in the Masjid compound wherein sisters only participate with their young children?
The fun day involves stalls, barbecue, mendhi, children’s bouncing castle, crafts, selling cakes etc.
If it’s not desirable, please explain why?
Answer:

Assalamu Alaikum,

Yes, the above can be done. Sisters must ensure that the children do not go into the prayer area of the Masjid to play. Also, when Salah is taking place, they should keep the children quiet.

Although the above is allowed, Muslims should try to be committed to the welfare of the Masjid and its projects by donating their monies for the sake of Allah. This is the way that has been thought in Islam and it should be encouraged. If each member of the Masjid or the locality commit himself/herself to donate $100.00 per month for the Masjid and its activities, then there will be no need to have fund raisers. We must all remember that the masjid is Allah’s house, and if we do not have fund raisers to build our own houses, we should not do so to build and fix Allah’s house. Allah Has called upon us repeatedly in the Holy Quran to donate towards His cause. Hence, we should continue to give to the Masjid on a regular basis.

And Allah Knows Best.
