Questions on Qurbani

As-Salaamu ‘Alaikum,

May Almighty Allaah continue to bless everyone associated with your institute.

On behalf of an elderly relative, there is an issue that needs to be answered. If one can afford Qurbani but is not able to participate in it physically due to poor health, and there is no help coming forward from relatives to do the actual cutting and weighing, etc.  is there a means by which a “special” zakaat is given (to the poor) to make up for this Qurbani? The person is not interested and definitely DOES NOT want to send any money abroad for Qurbani to be done. We would GREATLY appreciate advice from your point of view.

Jazaak Allaah.

Wa Alaikum Assalaam,

الجواب و بالله التوفيق

If a person can afford a Qurbani, then Qurbani must be done. Since there is no help coming from relatives etc., the person can give the money for Qurbani (i.e a share in a large animal can be paid for) and an arrangement can be made that the person collects the meat or it is shared out to the poor and needy.

There is no special zakat or sadaqa which can be given to make up for the Qurbani. If you need help in this regard, you can call the Darul Uloom at 665-1442, so that Qurbani can be done.

And Allah Knows Best.
