Qadha Of Fardh Fast

Question: Assalamu Alaikum,,

I have a question to ask.

during Ramadan this year i have missed at least 5 or more fasts on purpose as this was the first time i was fasting in UK where the no of hours for fasting were very long and i had some academic related work that needed some concentration.

After doing some research i have now found out that this is a sin to leave out fasts on purpose.

Can you kindly let me know how i can make up fr these fasts and what should i do ?

Kindly i need your guidance on this

Please note i don’t remember the exact no of days i did not fast

Answer: Assalamu Alaikum,

It is a grave sin to intentionally miss the fast of Ramadhan when there is no valid reason to do so. You should make sincere Tawbah (repentance) to Allah and ensure that this does not happen in the future.

With respect to what you have missed, you will have to keep the Qadha of these fasts. That is, you will have to make up for those fasts by keeping a similar amount of days in fast as soon as possible. While observing the missed fasts, there is no requirement that it must be done consecutively (one after another). You can keep them at random or may keep them consecutively as you wish. When keeping the Qadha fast, it is necessary that you make the intention at night (i.e before the break of dawn).

If you cannot remember exactly as to how much fasts you missed, then keep the maximum amount you think you would have missed. In other words, if you think you have missed about 5, 6, or 7 days of fasts, then make up for 7 days.

And Allah Knows Best.
