Use of jinns in Islam.

Q. I would like to find out if it is permitted in Islam to use jinns, because I know of some muslims who do this, even my sister visits a Mufti in Princes Town and I’m worried that it’s not allowed in Islam.

A. Based on that which has been mentioned in many books by the sound and reliable scholars, no such allowance has been recorded. Instead, the scholars have enumerated the different dua’s and surahs which can be recited for repelling the harms of the satans and the jinns, and have not indicated to the permission of using jinns. The great scholar Imam Jalaludeen Suyootee has written a wonderful book on the topic of the jinns and satans, and while giving authentic narrations of supplications regarding protecting oneself from their harms, he has not highlighted any such permission to use the jinns. In many authentic traditions, it is narrated that the Prophet (SAW) informed the companions of the supplications that they must recite for the different harms that were caused by the jinns, he also removed jinns from some people, however these were not done by taking the aid from other jinns. In the authentic traditions recorded by Imams Bukhari and Muslim it is evident that the Prophet (SAW) did not enslave or subjugate any jinn nor did he allow his companions to do so.

And Allah knows best.
