Is voting permissible in Trinidad and Tobago?

Q: Assalamu Alaikum, I wanted to find out what the ruling is concerning voting in Trinidad and Tobago. Are Muslims allowed to vote for a Government, or is this seen as electing a legislator other than Allah Ta’allah. Your response will be greatly appreciated.

A: Wa Alaikum As Salaam,

It is permissible to vote in Trinidad and Tobago. This is not seen as electing a legislator other than Allah. Vote expresses one’s preference for a Candidate to be a leader, or for a Government to run a Country. Whether you vote or not, a Government will come into power and run the Country based on legislation that has already been made.

The vote simply a means electing a person who you think will be beneficial to the Country, and will run the affairs with justice and goodness. Not voting for the correct person, can put the wrong person in power who can bring difficulties to all those living in a Country.

Thus, we as Muslims must vote to elect the right people so that goodness will prevail in the Country.

And Allah Knows Best.
