Q: Assalaam walaikum,

I read an article on Muslim woman going to a male gynecologist.

I’m forced by my in laws to consult one of their male gynecologist since I’m unable to conceive (married since 9 months now), though im not comfortable with the same.

I have informed my husband that it is not permissible in islam to consult the male Gync. But still i had to consult since my co-sister and my mother in laws wants me to.

Pls let me know if this is fine since i’m unable to convince them on this and very helpless. Will this be added as a sin in my account?

I’m very much worried..pls guide.

A: Wa alaikum as Salaam,

In this case, seeing that you are forced to go to the male gynecologist, there will be no sin upon you. They however, should understand that there are a number of good female gynecologists present and there is no need for a Muslim sister to visit a male gynecologist. If they insist upon you to go to the male, although they could have taken you to a female, then they will be sinful if you have to expose your body to the male gynecologist. If it is only a matter of consultation, then there will be no sin on anyone.
