Having dogs as pets
Question:
I heard dogs are only allowed to use as security. why are they not allowed to have as pets? also is it true they are able to see jinns because of the white stuff in their eyes?
Answer:
The Prophet (SAS) has stated that dogs are allowed for hunting, and for security purposes (to guard properties, animals, farms etc.) (Sahih Al Bukhari). The allowance has been not been extended for any other purpose. The possible reason that they are not allowed as pets is because they are very unclean.
As mentioned in the authentic traditions, dogs are able to see jinns. About this, the Prophet (SAS) said, ‘If you hear the bark of the dogs or the braying of donkeys during the night, seek refuge in Allah from Satan, as they see what you do not see’.(Abu Dawood, Ahmad).
There is no mention about if they are able to see on account of the white stuff in their eyes.
