Consuming iguana.

Q. Is iguana Halaal?

A. Iguana is a type of lizard, and according to Imam Abu Hanifa, it falls under the category of being a reptile and hence, not permissible.

Other Scholars like Imam Malik, Imam Ahmad and Imam Shafi have considered a type of lizard referred to as ‘Dhabb’ (in the hadith) to be permissible. Iguana may fall within this meaning. Imam Abu Hanifa explained that this type of lizard known as ‘Dhabb’ was permissible in the beginning period of Islam, but then became prohibited upon the revelation of the verse which stated that ‘all foul things’ were prohibited. Imam Abu Hanifa viewed lizard as being foul and hence, strictly prohibited since it is foul.
