Clapping and whistling in Islam.

Q. What are the rulings on clapping and whistling in Islam?

A. Clapping and whistling has no place in Islam.

The Sunnah of the Rasool (SA) is that when we are happy, we praise Allah with his Zikr (remembrance).

This is an expression of our happiness and at the same time it shows our gratitude to Almighty Allah.

It is from the customs of the non-believers that they clap and whistle to cheer, celebrate, and congratulate etc.

Therefore, as Muslims we should refrain from such practices and hold on to that which has been done by our beloved Prophet (SA). As the Prophet (SA) has said ‘Whosoever imitate a nation, is from among them (Abu Dawood).

And Allah knows best.
